The showpiece of the open kitchen, dining and sitting area is the fireplace, which features innovative two-stone masonry work and a distinctive herringbone pattern. A bold red gingham-check fabric picks up the russet hue from the fireplace stone and cleverly avoids a farm kitchen cliché.
Textured glass lights in the cabinets conjure up old-fashioned soda bottles, while an oriental runner creates a striking contrast to the black slate countertops.
